A shooting outside an Arby’s in Tulsa Tuesday afternoon left one person dead and another injured, according to Tulsa Police.
Officers responded around 4:35 p.m. to the restaurant near Admiral and Sheridan, where they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a hospital.
Police identified the victims as 46-year-old Michael Williams, who had been shot multiple times, and a 31-year-old woman who was a passenger in Williams’ vehicle. She was shot once.
Williams later died from his injuries. The woman’s injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
According to police, the suspect, 20-year-old Dezmin Day, left the scene before officers arrived. Witnesses helped investigators identify the SUV he was allegedly driving, and officers later located the vehicle in downtown Tulsa.
Police conducted a traffic stop and took Day into custody without incident. During a search of the SUV, officers said they found a pistol underneath the driver’s seat with its serial number filed off.
Homicide detectives interviewed Day, who reportedly told investigators the shooting stemmed from a road-rage incident involving one of the victims.
Police said surveillance video from the area shows Day pulling into the Arby’s parking lot and blocking Williams’ vehicle while it was parked in a space. Williams then got out of his vehicle, reportedly unarmed, to confront Day.
According to investigators, Day then shot Williams multiple times and also fired at Williams’ passenger after she exited the vehicle.
Day was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail on complaints of Second-Degree Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
This is an arrest, not a conviction. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
