Four teenagers are expected to recover after being shot during an early morning confrontation in east Tulsa, according to the Tulsa Police Department.
Officers responded to a reported shooting around 2:33 a.m. on Friday, August 7, near Latimer Place and North 73rd East Avenue. When officers arrived, they found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds: an 18-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl.
All four were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive their injuries.
Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a burglary that occurred earlier. According to police, one of the victims had captured a suspect on video allegedly breaking into his home and stealing several items. The victim and a group of friends then went to confront the suspected burglar, identified as a 16-year-old male who lives in the same neighborhood.
During the confrontation in the street, police say the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds, striking all four teenagers before fleeing the scene with the weapon.
The Tulsa Police Crime Scene Unit recovered more than a dozen shell casings from the roadway. Detectives with the Crime Gun Unit also executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home early Friday morning. Officers recovered four firearms during the search, but investigators do not believe any of them were used in the shooting.
The 16-year-old suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
