An Owasso man has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison after attempting to rob a bank in the Oklahoma City metro area.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 48-year-old Jerry Ray Brown of Owasso was sentenced on June 18, 2026, to 66 months in federal prison for attempted bank robbery.
Court records show that on March 28, 2025, Brown entered First National Bank in Choctaw and approached a teller, demanding access to the bank’s vault. Unbeknownst to Brown, the employee behind the counter was an off-duty police officer working security at the bank. The officer drew his firearm and confronted Brown, who immediately raised his hands and fled the bank.
Following an investigation, Brown was arrested on April 24, 2025. A federal grand jury later indicted him on one count of attempted bank robbery. Brown pleaded guilty on November 4, 2025, admitting that he intentionally attempted to take money or property from the bank through intimidation.
During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Timothy D. DeGiusti noted that Brown had previously served a 51-month federal prison sentence for multiple bank robberies in 2020. The judge stated that the prior sentence had failed to deter Brown from committing similar crimes. Federal records show Brown was convicted of two bank robberies in the Northern District of Oklahoma in 2020.
The case was investigated by the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office with assistance from the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Choctaw Police Department. Prosecutors included Assistant U.S. Attorneys Daniel Gridley and Drew Davis, along with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laney Elli
