Families looking to get ready for the new school year are invited to attend Oklahoma State University-Tulsa’s annual Community Back to School Bash on Tuesday, August 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The free event is open to families with students in Pre-K through 12th grade and will feature 1,000 free backpacks filled with school supplies, available while supplies last.
OSU President Jim Hess is expected to attend the event, meet with families and help distribute school supplies.
In addition to backpacks, families can connect with dozens of organizations offering programs and services designed to help students succeed throughout the school year. The Tulsa Health Department will also provide free immunizations during the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet representatives from several local agencies, including:
- OSU-Tulsa Police
- Tulsa Police Department
- Tulsa Fire Department
- EMSA
- Tulsa Water Quality Assurance Department
Now in its sixth year, organizers say this year’s Back to School Bash is expected to be one of the largest yet, featuring 48 community organizations and a variety of live entertainment from local high school bands, dance groups and youth organizations.
The event will take place at OSU-Tulsa Main Hall Commons and Parking Lot C, located on the west side of campus at 700 N. Greenwood Avenue. Parking is available in Lots A and B along Greenwood Avenue.
The Community Back to School Bash is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to arrive early, as backpacks and school supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
