A 71-year-old Claremore man died Monday following a boating incident on Oologah Lake, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 11:03 a.m. on June 22 in the Will Rogers Cove area of Oologah Lake. Authorities reported that a boat and its operator were missing, prompting a search involving the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Division, Northwest Fire Department, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
During the search, the vessel was located in the cove, and the operator was later found in the water approximately 50 yards east of the boat.
The victim, identified as Robert O. Johnson, 71, of Claremore, was recovered from the water by Northwest Fire personnel at approximately 3:39 p.m. Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Authorities noted that all information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.
