A four-vehicle chain-reaction crash during Monday evening rush hour on I-44 in Tulsa left multiple people injured, including a motorcyclist who was knocked from his motorcycle and run over by another vehicle.
According to a preliminary collision report, the crash happened at approximately 5:03 p.m. Monday, August 10, on westbound I-44 near OK-51 in Tulsa County.
Investigators said all four vehicles were traveling westbound when traffic began slowing. According to the report, 27-year-old Darius T. Jones of Tulsa was traveling at an unsafe speed and following too closely when he failed to slow in time and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by 72-year-old Ricky L. Wadley of Tulsa.
The impact pushed Wadley’s vehicle into a motorcycle operated by 37-year-old Robert G. Kemper of Sand Springs. Kemper’s motorcycle was then pushed into a fourth vehicle driven by 71-year-old Johnny F. Sharp of Afton.
Kemper was knocked from his motorcycle during the collision and was then driven over by Wadley’s vehicle, according to the report. Kemper was injured in the crash.
Wadley was also reported injured. A passenger in Jones’ vehicle was injured, while Jones and Sharp were not reported injured.
No fatalities were reported.
The collision remains under investigation. Officials noted that the information was gathered during the preliminary stages of the investigation and is subject to change.
