Rogers State University (RSU) and The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) have confirmed a partnership establishing an Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) designed to fast-track computer science students into high-demand cybersecurity careers.
A memorandum of understanding between the two schools will enable qualified USAO computer science majors to complete up to 12 graduate credit hours through RSU during their junior and senior years. These select RSU graduate courses will apply toward both the USAO bachelor’s degree and RSU’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy, Governance, and Training.
The accelerated pathway shortens time to degree and reduces overall cost while strengthening workforce readiness in cybersecurity policy, governance, and training – enabling students to earn both degrees in less than five years compared to the traditional six-year path.
“This is a great example of two universities working together for the benefit of students and addressing a critical need in the workforce,” said Dr. Don Raleigh, president of RSU. “I commend President (Kayla) Hale at USAO for working with us on this partnership.”
“We are incredibly pleased to be partnering with Rogers State University to bring an accelerated program that includes building both a deep base of knowledge coupled with hands-on skill development from faculty at two institutions to our computer science students whose career goals are focused on cybersecurity,” said Dr. Rachel Jones, Dean, School of Science and Kinesiology and Professor of Environmental Science & Biology at USAO. “This program allows us to continue serving our students in their academic and career goals, while also meeting increased pressure from our legislature to prepare individuals for the workforce more quickly.”
Key Highlights of the Accelerated Master’s Program:
- Reduced Time-to-Degree: Allows students to complete both a B.S. and an M.S. in under five years.
- Dual-Credit Advantage: Up to 12 RSU graduate credits may be applied to the USAO bachelor’s degree as designated electives (or as otherwise approved) and to RSU’s master’s degree program.
- Cost Savings: Decreases overall tuition expense by eliminating up to a full semester of standalone graduate coursework.
- Streamlined Admission: USAO computer science majors maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher are eligible for conditional acceptance into RSU’s graduate program.
The partnership goes into effect for the upcoming academic year, with advising and degree mapping available immediately through USAO’s Computer Science department.
