A Tulsa man’s alleged shoplifting attempt came to an unexpected halt when the shopping cart he was pushing decided it wasn’t going any farther!

Tulsa Police responded to a reported theft at the Walmart near Admiral and Memorial around 10:30 p.m.

According to police, 52-year-old Heath Herring allegedly left the store with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise. However, the cart’s security system activated, locking one of its front wheels.

Rather than abandoning the cart, police say Herring dragged it to 85th East Avenue, where he allegedly attempted to break the wheel-locking mechanism with an axe reportedly taken from the store.

When officers arrived, Herring reportedly told them, “Alright, let’s go [to jail].”

Herring was arrested on a charge of Larceny of Merchandise from a Retailer.

Apparently, that shopping cart security system was worth every penny!

An arrest is not a conviction. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
