A man using a motorized wheelchair was killed in an apparent hit-and-run crash early Monday morning, and Tulsa Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible.
According to Tulsa Police, officers responded to the area of East 36th Street North near Lewis Avenue at approximately 6:24 a.m. on July 27 after a collision was reported.
Before emergency crews arrived, a Tulsa firefighter who was on his way to work discovered the victim unresponsive beneath a damaged motorized wheelchair on the south side of the roadway. The firefighter immediately called 911 and began life-saving efforts.
Tulsa Fire Department paramedics responded, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators recovered pieces of a suspected vehicle next to the mangled wheelchair. Police believe the evidence came from a dark gray Nissan sedan that struck the victim before leaving the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to identify and locate the driver.
