A 23-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old boy remains in critical condition following a shooting early Monday morning at a Tulsa park.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, officers were called to Hicks Park, near 34th Street and Mingo Road, at approximately 2:13 a.m. on July 6 after receiving reports of a large gathering.
As officers arrived, they observed numerous vehicles leaving the park while several people remained behind to flag them down for help. Investigators say the gathering was an unofficial meetup that took place after a party at an event center near 31st Street and Sheridan Road.
Officers located two victims in the park’s parking lot, both suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Police immediately began rendering aid until paramedics arrived.
A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the shooting and are working to identify those responsible.
