Tulsa Police arrested a 50-year-old man Tuesday evening after they say he took a 1-year-old child from a woman’s shopping cart inside a Walmart.
Officers responded around 5:08 p.m. to the Walmart near 68th Street and Memorial Drive following a reported kidnapping.
According to police, the mother was shopping with her two children when a man approached her and briefly spoke about the children. Police say the man then removed her 1-year-old from her shopping cart, placed the child in his own cart and began walking away.
The mother immediately confronted the man and was able to take her child back. She then reportedly took both children into a store bathroom, locked the door and called for help.
Walmart employees removed the suspect from the store and contacted 911.
When officers arrived, they located a man matching the suspect’s description sitting at a nearby bus stop.
Police identified him as 50-year-old Marshall Dixon. According to Tulsa Police, when officers questioned Dixon about the reported abduction, he admitted, “Yeah, I did that.”
Dixon was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail on a kidnapping charge.
No injuries to the child were reported in the police release.
This is an arrest, not a conviction. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
